Researchers at the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine, of the University of Edinburgh, have developed the first ever fully-functioning lab-produced living organ. By reprogramming cells derived from mouse embryos, scientists have been able to produce a working thymus, a major immune system organ. The breakthrough will eventually help treat the thousands of thymus disorder and bone marrow transplant patients across the world.
